Kiosk / counter check-in

The kiosk is a tablet at your counter for walk-ins without their own phone. It's tap-first — one big button, a number, and, if they want, a QR to follow their place on their phone.

Everyone Where: Visitor pages → Kiosk 4 min read
Zero typing by default. The kiosk starts as a single “Join the line” button. Add fields only if you truly need them — a shared tablet is for speed, not forms.

What the kiosk is for

It runs full-screen on a venue tablet at your entrance. Because it's shared, it never asks for a phone or email — those two are blocked on this surface on purpose, so a walk-up just takes a number.

  • You design its look and fields in Visitor pages, under the Kiosk surface.
  • Its text starts one size larger than the join page, because people read a counter tablet standing up.
Day-to-day behaviour The countdown, a dropped connection, and the code for someone with no phone are covered on Running the counter tablet.

Open the line's Share / Get found panel and choose Kiosk tablet. It has your kiosk link with Copy link and a download button for its QR code.

The quickest way to set a tablet up Sign in on the tablet itself, open that panel, and press “Open on this tablet” — it sends the device you are holding straight onto the kiosk screen.
A kiosk link is public. It is the same join code as your ordinary join link and QR poster — just a different way in. There is nothing to pair and no code to enter on the tablet, so treat it like your QR poster, not like a password.

The welcome screen

It leads with the business name — “Welcome to Luxe Hair Studio” — with the line's name in small letters above it, so a shop with a kiosk at each counter tells people which one they are standing at.

Underneath sits “Tap below to join the line” and the big Join the line button — and, if you have turned them on, the few things you ask for.

Your own heading Write it in Visitor pages and it replaces both the business name and this sentence.
When it appearsWhat happens
How many people? A plus/minus counter. Will not go below 1, and stops at the line's Largest party size.
Your name Off to start with, and can be marked Required. Holds up to 60 characters — the box simply stops taking more.
Vehicle or plate Off to start with, and can be marked Required. Holds up to 120 characters — the box simply stops taking more.
Anything we should know Off to start with, and can be marked Required. Holds up to 500 characters — the box simply stops taking more.

The service tiles

What you seeWhat it means
Big tap-once tiles under “What do you need today?” Appear only when the Service field is on for the Kiosk AND the line has a service list.
“Fill in Your name to continue.” If something Required is still empty, the Join button dims and a red line names the thing that is missing. Staff are regularly asked why the button “doesn't work” — this is almost always the answer.
What the visitor is toldWhen
“Your number shows here and on the lobby TV · resets for the next person automatically.” Always, in small grey text at the bottom of the welcome screen.
A second line about what you do with their details Only when the tablet actually asks for something. A tap-only kiosk collects nothing, so nothing is claimed.

The tap-to-join flow

  1. 1Tap Join the line
  2. 2“You're in line”
Number shown very large — A012 if the line uses a ticket series letter
Tapping twice never double-books — while it is joining the kiosk says “no need to tap again”.

Two things on the "You're in line" screen are the visitor's safety net — a short code to write down, and a "Scan to follow your place on your phone" QR that opens their personal tracking link.

Full, closed & paused

When the kiosk can't take someone it says which of four things is true, and it never guesses.

What the screen saysWhat it means
Line full — please check back shortly You have hit the line's capacity cap. Clears itself as soon as a space frees up.
We're closed right now Outside opening hours. Names the reopening time when there is one in the next fortnight — “Opens today at 09:00”, or “Opens Tuesday at 09:00” if later in the week — in your shop's clock and language, not the tablet's.
New numbers are paused As the heading, this appears only when a member of your team really did pause joins. It is never used as a catch-all.
Not taking new visitors right now Everything else — a retired line, or an account matter. Deliberately vague, because your customers should not read your billing on a screen in your lobby.
The same words, a different meaning “New numbers are paused” also appears in the smaller line under Line full — “New numbers are paused until a spot frees up. Everyone already waiting keeps their place.” There it means the line is at capacity, not that anyone paused it.

Each of the four names the line and the branch above the message, and offers Check again.

“This kiosk isn't set up yet” means the link is wrong. Check it, or ask staff to re-point the tablet at the current kiosk link.
Set the tablet up to stay on the kiosk. Point the tablet's browser at the kiosk link and use its “guided access” / kiosk mode so a customer can't wander off the page. It auto-resets after each join, so it's happy to run unattended.
