Call & serve

The whole day at the counter is one loop — Call next → the guest walks up → Start serving → Complete. This page walks that loop, then the tiles for every state, and what happens when the person you called doesn't appear.

Everyone Where: Queue → a guest's action panel 6 min read
Only legal actions are ever offered. The Action centre shows tiles for exactly what a guest's current state allows — so nobody can accidentally “serve” someone who was never called, and turnda never throws a confusing error for a move that isn't allowed.

Call next — the big button

Call next is the console's headline action. It calls the person at the top of the line — in the line's own serving order, which weighs bookings, priority and the max-wait safety netA max-wait limit: a walk-in who has waited longer than it is bumped ahead of other walk-ins — never past an emergency or a due booking..

Two counters pressing it at the same instant each get a different guest — no double-calls.

  • When a guest is called, the lobby board updates and plays its chime or spoken announcement. The sound comes from the board, not the console — set it in Line settings → Lobby TV, or per board on Displays.
  • Their tracking linkThe always-free web page a visitor gets when they join — it shows their number, how many are ahead, and an estimated wait, and updates on its own. flips to "It's your turn!"
  • Whoever has now moved inside your heads-up window gets the one automatic “almost up”The one automatic message per visit — sent when a visitor reaches your line's heads-up position (position 1 by default), with their number and tracking link. message.
  • There's no separate “message the called person” blast — the board and tracker are the announcement.

Serving someone — the tiles per state

Select a guest and the Action centre offers only the moves their situation allows.

  • They're grouped so the obvious one is impossible to miss — the main action first, full width.
  • Then the everyday ones.
  • Then, under a divider that says “Can't be undone”, anything you can't take back.

What each state offers

StateTiles you see
Waiting Call, Call silently (only if the line allows serving out of order — see below), Transfer to another line…, Cancel visit.
Called Start serving, Recall, Hold, Hold at station, No-show, Grab to a station…, Transfer to another line…, Cancel visit.
Serving Complete, Complete & call next, Hold, Hold at station, Send to next stage (journeys only), Grab to a station…, Transfer to another line…. There is no Cancel here — somebody already being served is finished or held, not cancelled.
On hold Bring back, Recall, Transfer to another line…, Cancel visit.
On hold at a station The same as On hold, minus Recall.
Parked (Paused) Transfer to another line… and Cancel visit only — they come back on their own once you resume joins, not one at a time.
No-show or finished One tile only: Put back in line (or Re-check in for somebody on a journey).
Closed out Nothing. A visit the overnight tidy-up ended is over — if the person is still there, add them as a fresh walk-in.

Live guests also always carry the visit tiles — priority, notes, flags, re-send link and report issue — covered in Walk-ins, notes & flags.

Example. A salon: the stylist taps Call next, A014 appears on the TV with a chime. The guest sits down — Start serving. Haircut done and the room's still busy — Complete & call next keeps the chair full in one tap.

The three tiles that ask first

Everything else happens on one tap. These three stop and check, because each one costs somebody something — as does cancelling a booking from the Upcoming tab, which asks the same way.

TileWhat it asksThen
Cancel visit Cancel this visit? They will be removed from the line and lose their place. This can't be undone.Confirm with Cancel visit or back out with Keep in line. This is the only action in the whole console with no way back.
Put back in line, for a priority guest They will not go to the back.Even on a line set to send people to the back, a priority guest keeps their place near the front, and people who have waited longer will still be called after them. Say yes with Put back in line or Leave as is.
Complete, for a journey guest with steps still to come Steps still to come.Finishing now ends the whole visit and skips what's left. The dialog points you at Send to next stage instead, or you can choose Complete and skip the step.

Serving out of order & grabbing

Two line settings (Line settings → Staff controls) decide how much latitude staff have here — see Staff latitude & flags:

Line settingWhat happens
Let staff serve out of order When on, a waiting guest who isn't at the front still gets Call / Call silently tiles. When off, those tiles disappear and only Call next works, so arrival order is enforced.
Let staff grab from another station When on, Grab to a station… lets you take a called or serving guest to one of your own stationsA spot where one staff member serves one visitor — a chair, desk, room or counter., and you become the one serving them. Two things must both be true for the tile to appear — the setting is on AND you're an owner or manager at that branch.
  • Staff simply don't see it. If the line has no counters, the tile is there but greyed, saying “No stations on this line yet.”

Transfer is a fresh start, not a sideways step. Transfer to another line… puts the visitor at the back of the other line with a new wait clock — it does not carry their place across.

  • Moving somebody to a line at another branch is the owner's to do; everyone else only sees lines at their own branch.
  • The tile never appears at all for a guest on a journeyA visit that passes through several stops in order (e.g. reception → consult → pharmacy). Each stop is its own line. — those move with Send to next stage. Full story in Transfer a visitor.

Stations & two people at once

  • “Signing in at a chair is optional — it shows who's at each counter and tags your serves to it. You can call and serve guests without it.” Sign in from the station pill in the top bar (see PIN sign-in & stations).
  • Because several people work one line, an action can land a second after somebody else's. When that happens you get one plain sentence naming what actually happened, not an error code.
  • After any action the tiles go quiet for a moment and pulse. That is the console waiting for the line to catch up before it offers you the next move, so you can't fire two actions into the same guest.
For example “That's not available any more — this visitor has already been called. The queue has been refreshed, so try again from their new options.”
  • There's a version of that sentence for every situation — already being served, already finished, on hold, marked a no-show, left the line, or moved to another line.
  • Nothing broke, nothing was done twice, and the tiles you now see are the real ones.
Tapped Call next and nothing seemed to happen? Press it again — it's protected against a lost reply, so a repeat press never calls a second person.
What you seeWhat it means
Nothing seems to happen after your first press Press it again. If your first press did reach us, the second one returns the SAME person rather than calling a second one.
“No one is waiting” Genuinely nobody is waiting.
“We couldn't reach turnda. Check your connection — this may not have been saved.” Your device has lost the internet.

If it goes wrong

What you seeWhy
No Call tile on a waiting guest The line has Let staff serve out of order switched off — use Call next, or ask the owner to change the setting.
No Grab to a station… tile You're not a manager at this location, or the setting is off.
No Transfer to another line… tile Either this guest is on a journey, or there is no other line to send them to.
The board stayed silent on a call Chime is a per-line Lobby TV setting — a silent call is silent on purpose.
“Only the account owner can do this” or “You don't have access to this location” That is the permission boundary, not a fault — see Roles & permissions.
